19 Nov EITI Transparency Promotion at the Local Level, Municipality of Roskovec
Promoting Transparency at the Local Level indicates the commitment that the EITI National Secretariat has undertaken to become part of a national strategy, including all stakeholders in the extractive sector.
On November 12, 2018, representatives of the EITI National Secretariat organized a meeting with Mrs. Majlinda Bufi, Mayor of Roskovec Municipality and the technical staff, with the aim of raising citizens’ awareness on the benefits that the extracting industry brings to the community, as well as the efficient distribution of mining income in this community.
In the meeting with the Mayor, mr. Lluka Gjergo, EITI Secretariat Coordinator, addressed the issues of Collecting Mineral Royalty Revenues, informing the community about these revenues and distributing them, increasing social and environmental impact, and publishing Real Ownership (BO’s) in 2020.
In the Municipality of Roskovec currently operates Bankers Petroleum as the largest oil production company in the country with about 90% of it.
For the EITI National Secretariat, it is very important that the role that Local Structure plays in the extractive sector to be translated into an inter-institutional cooperation instrument, focusing on the social aspect and sustainable economic development.
