26 Jun Visit of the International EITI Secretariat Mission in Albania, June 2024
The Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative Secretariat and MSG held a one-day meeting with the International EITI Secretariat team from Oslo, consisting of Mr. Mark Burnett (Interim Director for Europe) and Ms. Lisa Sviland (Regional Officer), to discuss and share experiences on the development and implementation of the EITI Standard in Albania. During this meeting, the General Director of the EITI Secretariat in Albania, Mr. Genci Tërpo, detailed the institution’s activities and the corresponding steps taken regarding the implementation of the work plan within initiatives aiming for transparency in the extractive industry sector. He also addressed government priorities aligned with the EITI Board-approved standard in 2023.As part of Albeiti’s Work Plan, a solid foundation has been laid to achieve the mission of promoting transparency, ensuring sustainable development, and supporting the highest governance standards in Albania’s extractive industries. Meanwhile, International EITI representatives held meetings with Albeiti’s MSG representatives, as well as officials from Albanian institutions and business companies contributing to the development of the EITI initiative in Albania. During this visit, International EITI Secretariat representatives also conducted a session with MSG to explain the meaning of the new EITI 2023 Standard and the measures required for its ongoing implementation in Albania. Simultaneously, a key focus of the proceedings was the collection of necessary data for the realization of EITI Reports, seeking cooperation from Albanian institutions with Albeiti to ensure timely information retrieval and publication of reports according to deadlines.
