The International Conference “OTC – Oil and Gas Offshore Technology 2018” took place from 30 April to 3 May, 2018 in Houston Texas, USA.

The conference, accompanied by an International Exhibition, is the largest global event in the Oil and Gas Sector, which is attended by more than 60,000 policy-makers, decision-makers, experts and representatives from the largest international corporations in the Hydrocarbon Sector.

The Head of the National EITI Secretariat, Ardit Kamberi, took part at this International Conference at the invitation of the US Embassy in Tirana as well as from the organizers of such event.

The EITI initiative functions as a transparent and consistent showcase for foreign investors, certified by international standards, with a view to ensuring transparency and the good governance of oil, gas and mineral resources.The OTC International Conference, held each year in Houston, Texas (which is considered the World’s Capital of Energy), celebrated its 50th anniversary as a global event with an extremely high impact on the Oil and Gas Sectors.During the sessions of this international event, Mr. Kamberi held meetings with representatives of the US Department of Commerce, US Commercial Service and representatives of the Texas Governor’s Office, and informed the participants on Albania’s  potentials to attract foreign investments in the oil and gas sector.The Head of the EITI Secretariat also met with the US Vice Secretary of Trade and Production, Steff.

At the meetings, Mr. Kamberi highlighted the priorities of the Albanian Government towards creating a stable and favorable climate for foreign investments by improving the mechanisms for the good governance of natural resources in Albania, and more specifically, by promoting transparency in compliance with international standards.At the meetings with representatives of the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM Bank), the parties discussed on promotion and financing processes and areas of US investments in the oil sector in Albania.

At the event, Mr. Kamberi also met with representatives from many international companies. The meetings highlighted the increased and actual interest shown by US companies as well as by other companies from other countries such as Canada, Israel, China, etc. to invest in the Petroleum sector in Albania.

The OTC event serves as a global platform that showcases ground-breaking ideas and technologies, innovation and research, helps important decision-making, and offers multifaceted opportunities for cooperation and partnership in the oil and gas sector in order to better meet the rising global demand for energy.

The conference was attended by approximately 60,000 participants from more than 100 countries, whereas more than 2,300 companies from 45 countries participated in the International Exhibition; as well as by the most important Presidents and CEOs in the Energy Industry, such as Total; ConocoPhillips; Halliburton; National Oilwell Varco; Statoil; DNV GL; GE; Jacobs Engineering Group; Oceaneering International; Subsea 7; PEMEX etc.

The attendees at the Conference sessions and panels presented different analyses and perspectives on important topics such as: Feasibility of Gas  Projects and  Infrastructure; Digitalization of Risk Control and Management in Gas Projects; Government challenges related to promotion of innovation and scientific research; Strategy Development in addressing current market challenges; Environmental Impact Management in Gas and Oil projects; Verification, Validation and regulatory requirements regarding Technology; Integration of system modulation in petroleum projects; Modernization of Geotechnical technologies; The latest techniques in subsea pipeline projects; OTC’s The Next Wave program “The next 50 Years: Evolution of Industry” etc.

Special Events focusing on education and specialization of Students and Young Professionals and associated with exploration experiments and technology innovation in energy projects were also included in the conference agenda as an integral part of the Conference.

The conference once more laid emphasis on the specific strategic importance of national, regional and global energy security in the context of current economic, political, social and environmental challenges.
