Meeting of the World Bank Mission in Albania with representatives of the Albeiti Multi-stakeholder Group

The National Secretariat of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative on June 26, 2024, hosted the World Bank mission from Washington DC, composed of its representatives Ms. Nina Inamahoro (team leader and operational officer) and Ms. Magdalena Chawuta (specialist in the field of mining). The World Bank mission was received by the General Director of Albeiti, Mr. Genci Tërpo, and the institution’s staff composed of Mr. Lluka Gjergo and Ms. Majlinda Balla, as well as representatives of the Albeiti Multi-stakeholder Group, including Ms. Anila Hajnaj (representative of civil society organizations), Mr. Robert Beshello, Mr. Mynyr Sinanaj (National Agency of Natural Resources), and Mr. Bilal Koçi (Albanian Geological Service).

During this meeting, the importance of the projects undertaken by Albeiti in the field of developing the EITI Initiative in Albania was discussed, as well as the progress made so far in the framework of implementing activities and advancing in data collection for the realization of EITI Reports and other activities. The MSG representatives emphasized the fact that the Albeiti institution needs continuous support in line with the importance of developing the EITI Standard in Albania and the need for continued funding in the coming years to ensure sustainability, not only in terms of domestic financing but also within the framework of foreign financing. The World Bank officials provided their support to assist the Albeiti institution and the Albanian state in its mission as an implementing country of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative and continuously meeting the obligations of this initiative, aiming for the rapid development of all activities that the institution is undertaking, both in terms of systematic progress of open and accessible data for everyone and in other objectives set through the EITI 2023 Standard.

The EITI’s strategic priorities aim to address global natural resource governance challenges. They reflect the diverse obstacles that resource-rich countries face as they adapt EITI implementation to national priorities. On this issue, the obligation arises for the stakeholder groups supporting Albeiti to take continuous measures to translate the constant and ongoing development of the EITI 2023 Standard requirements into active actions.
