22 May EITI-OSCE: Inter-municipal rounds meetings in four South Municipalities
EITI and the OSCE Presence on May 20-21, 2019 organized a series of workshops in four South Albanian Municipalities: Saranda, Himara, Selenica, Vlora, focusing on the discussions of the local government relations with Extractive Industries operating companies and by addressing the socio-economic and environmental impact in the local communities by such activities and the effectiveness of touristic potentials in some of these municipalities.
In those meetings with the representatives of each of the four Municipalities, the following issues were discussed in detail:
Distributing and maximizing the social and environmental impact of the Royalty in the beneficiary communities; Problems related to the activities effects on road infrastructure; Optimizing the effects of business activities in areas that have touristic development priorities; Strengthening of local capacities for the use of legal instruments for collection of the measure set out in the Royalty Legislation; Legislation on the protection of children from illegal employment and the role of local government in the fight against informality.
Following this round of meetings, the EITI and the OSCE Presence will hold an Inter-municipal Seminar on May 2019, with four South Municipalities, focusing on Royalty issues and the role of local government in maximizing the effects of a sustainable development in local communities.
