EITI at the International Conference “On the Integral Development of Mining Industries with minimal impact on the Environment”

On May 10, 2019, was organized in Tirana, under the auspices of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy of Albania, as well as the Ministry of Economic Development of Kosovo, the International Conference “On the Integral Development of Mining industry with minimal impact on Environment”.

The conference addressed issues related to the presentation of the mining potential of the two countries, Policies and strategies for the sustainable development of the sector, Minimizing the negative environmental impacts from the mining activity, and strengthening the real Albania-Kosovo cooperation in the Mining sector.

The conference was also greeted by the Minister of Economic Development of Kosovo, mr. Valdrin Lluka, Representative of the Albania Parliament, mr. Taulant Balla, Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, mr. Ilir Bejtja, ICMM Chairman of the Board, mr.Musa Shabani and many other personalities.

In the Sessions of Conference were made presentations that pointed out: Potentials and resources of metallic, non-metallic, energetic and industrial and exploration for new reserves in Albania and Kosovo; Progressive Rehabilitation of Environment in mining careers; Contributions of the University and Faculties of Geology-Mining to the preparation of senior specialists in the field of Geo-sciences; Possibilities of scientific descriptors of oil structures in the Albanian marine space, etc.

Director of the EITI National Secretariat, mr. Ardit Kamberi in his speech emphasized the importance of promoting and implementing the Transparency process in Mining activity, as well as the active role of Alb-EITI for cooperation with Kosovo’s state structures, regarding the initiation of Kosovo’s membership process in the EITI International Initiative.

During the Conference, mr. Kamberi also held meetings with the Minister of Economic Development of Kosovo, mr. Lluka, as well as with the Chairman of the ICMM Board of Kosovo, mr. Shabani, where they discussed the real advantages of membership in the EITI International Coalition as one of the most constructive forms that optimize the process of integration of Albania and Kosovo into the European Union.
